Technology is great – it helps us stay connected, 24 hours a day if we want, but there is a downside to being able to keep in touch anywhere, anytime and that is we have to carry it around. It’s not so bad when it’s just our mobile phone but when it comes to lugging around our laptops and associated gadgets it can all become a bit heavy!
It seems that we are all having to carry more and more stuff everyday and both men and women are carrying heavier bags around!
Unfortunately as chiropractors in our busy chiropractic clinic in central London it’s not uncommon for us to treat patients whose back is being negatively impacted with the way they are carrying their bags everyday.
Here are our chiropractors top tips for protecting your back when carrying your bags:
- Keep it light: It’s surprising how much stuff we are carrying around every day so first things first – empty out your bags and remove unnecessary items.
- Distribute weight evenly: Consider using a rucksack as this will help distribute weight more evenly across your back provided you carry it on both shoulders and ensure that the straps are adjusted so that the bag is held close to your body.
- Use two bags instead of one: If you have a lot to carry then split the load evenly across two bags and carry one in each hand.
Think back safe when loading up your bags!
