Can Homework Cause Back Pain?

Just as parents’ stress levels finally start to decrease with the kids back at school, there’s something else to fret over- our kids’ back health! And it’s all to do with homework!  According to our London chiropractor, more and more children and teenagers are suffering from back and neck pain due to spending too much time studying at a laptop or a computer.

But you can significantly reduce the risk of your child picking up a neck or back injury when studying. All you have to do is follow this simple advice:

1: Invest in a desk and if possible set up a study area for your child to work from. You should also ensure that your child has a good quality, appropriately sized chair that offers a high level of back support.

2: Encourage your child to take breaks away from the computer/ text book every 20 – 30 minutes. During these breaks, your child should also walk around and get some light exercise.

3: Make sure your child drinks plenty of water during homework periods. Dehydration is a major cause of inflammation, which can cause neck and back pain.

Take these tips on board today. Because let’s face it; homework is already a big enough pain for your kids!
