It’s the most wonderful time of the year and the party season is well and truly upon us. Our calendars are jam packed with glitzy nights out and our fridges are equally as packed with festive bubbly. But could one too many boozy drinks pose serious risks to our spine health?
Quite possibly, according to our London chiropractor.
Although most of us like to get a little “merry” at Christmastime, we must remember that alcohol is a poison that can lead to a cascade of health issues. One of these issues is dehydration.
After consuming alcohol, our bodies want to get rid of the toxin poison. To eliminate the toxins from the body, we use up more water and we become more dehydrated. This can cause inflammation, muscle tightness and spasms. We also miss out on crucial restorative sleep following a night of heavy drinking, which can be a big risk factor in the worsening/ development of back pain.
Of course, all of this is assuming you don’t fall over and injure your back directly!
Know your limits. That’s all you need to do for a fun and healthy Christmas!
