Is Your Neck Pain Becoming a Headache?

Most of us will suffer from headaches at some point or another with many of us even “passing off” the pain as one of the “normal” aches and pains of modern life. But according to our chiropractor in London, undiagnosed or untreated problems in the cervical spine (neck) are a common cause of chronic headaches. If you suffer from frequent headaches it’s worth taking a look at the following neck problems that can cause or contribute to head pain:

1: Whiplash

Have you been involved in a road traffic accident where your head was flipped backwards and forwards? Even in a minor collision, the muscles and ligaments in the neck can becomes strained or torn which can lead to headaches.

2: Trauma

Have you fallen or been involved in a sporting injury?  If so, the muscles, ligaments and bones may have been affected. Irritated or inflamed nerves in the neck can refer pain to the head, face and scalp.

3: Inflammation or degeneration of the cervical spine

Osteoarthritis commonly causes degeneration of the vertebrae which can lead to an aching head.

4: General wear and tear

It is normal for progressive degeneration of the neck vertebrae to take place as we age.
