We’ve all heard of “pain management” but is it really possible to train the brain away from pain? According to our London chiropractor, this notion is a very real possibility.

Any who suffers from chronic back pain knows that it is not something that can be classed as a simple sensation. In fact, chronic pain can stimulate powerful emotional responses such as anxiety, fear, depression and even terror. These reactions depend heavily on what we believe about our pain signals but we should be aware that pain is not always a reliable sign of what’s really going on. In other words, we should perhaps stop thinking of pain in terms of singular causes or cures.

Because physical pain and the perception of it are so closely linked, we can learn how to manage and reduce painful sensations by using a combination of deep focus, controlled breathing and imagery techniques.

Despite the easy availability of prescription drugs, the best form of pain relief does not always come in the shape of a tablet!
