Every May, Living Streets, holds a country-wide campaign to encourage parents and children to walk to school. In 2017, 400,000 children and their families joined the challenge. Each year Living Streets come up with a new themed challenge which is designed to be fun, however, the common aim is to get kids and parents walking and getting the enjoying the many benefits that walking can bring.
This year the walk to School week runs between 21 – 25 May. The focus is on stressing the benefits of walking to school which includes:
- Healthier bodies and happier minds
- Fewer cars at the school gates
- Less air pollution
- Time to chat with family and friends
Living a long way from school doesn’t need to be an excuse,, simply park the car 10 minutes away and get walking!
Of course if you’ve missed this year’s challenge you don’t need to wait until next year – start your own challenge. Create your own fun challenge for 5 days and experience the benefits of walking more.
