There are a few different ways in which we can commute to work but by far the most common option is to drive. For the majority of us we are stuck in our cars every morning and night for sometimes hours.
As a leading London Chiropractor we are concerned by the length of time we spend driving as it is one of the leading factors for back and neck pain and poor posture.
London chiropractor shares advice on how to protect your back whilst in the car
Fortunately for you we are in a position to offer a few pieces of advice to you to help look after your back;
- Seating – The back of the seat should be set slightly backwards so that it feels natural. If you get this right your elbows should also be relaxed. If your seat has been adjusted correctly your hands should fall nicely on the steering wheel, with only a slight bend in your arms.
- Mirrors – You need to be able to see all of your mirrors from your driving position without having to move your head too much. Make sure you allow this to happen.
- Clothing and footwear – Avoid tight and restrictive clothing and allow your blood to circulate. Avoid heels and clunky footwear to make your driving safe but also to help you relax
- Relaxing and exercising – A relaxed driving style will reduce pressure on your body and calm your nerves. If your drive to work is a long one, consider planning a 5 minute break half way through to relax and stretch. If not try some in car exercises to loosen up.
