Putting up the Christmas decorations for many of us is an important part of Christmas.
Some people have even added decorations to the outside of their homes, with whole streets getting involved. Whatever scale of display you are intending, we want you to keep yourself safe this Christmas, especially when it comes to keeping your back safe.
Here at Central London Chiropractor Motionback we have some top tips for keeping your back safe whilst getting ready for Christmas:
Buying the Tree
Take care when getting it into and to the car. Trees are heavy and especially awkward to lift and carry. Don’t be worried about asking for help and use a trolley to avoid straining yourself.
Putting up the decorations
Make sure you use a stepladder if you are hanging decorations up, you may also need to use it to decorate the tree, if it’s very big.
Keep safe when using a ladder:
- Make sure it is planted securely so there is no chance that it will slip or wobble when you are up it. Better still have someone hold it in place.
- When using the ladder, always have your body facing the steps, keep your shoulders, hips and knees pointing in the same direction.
Gift wrapping
Use a table or worktop to do your wrapping on as opposed to the floor. This will help you avoid straining your back. Remember to straighten up regularly, stretch gently to loosen off your back and take regular breaks.
